Cataloged from PDF version of thesis. Includes bibliographical references (pages 55-65). Classroom interaction is the bridge between the teachers and students in the process of learning. It plays a significant role in successful implementation of teaching strategies. This study followed a qualitative research approach and relevant data was collected through interview, classroom observation and focus group discussion (FGD), conducted with English medium school‘s teachers and parents. As a large number of students are joining English medium schools and spending their valuable time, the research explored the ways of classroom interaction revealing the contributions of the teachers and the students. The findings suggest that these features of teachers-students‘ classroom interactions constitute an important foundation for promoting the quality of students learning as well as teachers-students‘ classroom interaction. I also found that instead of rushing to complete the syllabus, interactive methods should be used in the classroom for impactful learning. I also discovered teachers hail from different educational backgrounds and mostly undergo training after joining the profession. The results of the study add to our understanding of teachers‘ knowledge and skills within classrooms and how teachers can improve their methods. I hope findings presented here will lead us to deeper understanding of the intrinsic links between the discursive environments we create in our classrooms and the developmental consequences they give rise to. Such understanding can help us shape our classroom interactional practices in ways that foster the development of learners and teachers. Jehan Rahman M.
