It is a half-yearly journal published jointly by BAFED and BU-IED with financial assistance from UNESCO. The Journal's Retrieved from http://www.bafed.net/earchive.php This paper looks at human development in higher education through the lens of its users (the alumni). Tertiary education in Bangladesh has recorded over a five-fold growth since its birth in 1971. Yet, the participation rate of only 7 out of every 1000 persons in higher education in the country has to be considered meager. Higher education in Bangladesh faces many challenges. Efforts have been made to capture the insight of one stakeholder group-the alumni of higher education institutions. In Bangladesh, the higher education system has often failed to deliver value to its beneficiaries, diminishing its value to its stakeholders largely because of its failure to meet expectations. The image of the HEIs has also been seriously compromised and the semblance of quality markedly eroded by political involvement of the teachers and students and the lack of an effective governance mechanism. Consequently, many aspiring students are seeking their education, goals and dreams in universities abroad. The paper attempted to provide insights into various quality dimensions of higher education and their subcomponents, namely, Teacher Quality, Peer Quality, Course Quality, Campus Politics and administrative Support.
