Includes bibliographical references (pages 70-71). The proposed Bangabandhu Media Center, known as the National Press Club of Bangladesh, is the central organization for journalists and a meeting place for the general people of Bangladesh. It is the ideal hub for professional interaction with the news industry at the national and international levels. It holds significant value to the journalist community of Bangladesh as it guides them by maintaining rules and regulations in the professional field. On the other hand, the place plays a vital role in highlighting social, economic, cultural, and political activities. Though it is a part of a government institution, Press Club can work independently for the sake of liberty. As media is an important tool for civic society, the media clubs enlisted as a proper civic space for the people. The present press club was established in 1954 on Topkhana road, Dhaka in Pakistan period, and latterly elaborated as the National Press Club of Bangladesh in 1977. The new proposal illustrates building an international standard media center that could serve the modern needs of professionals and general people. The required functions of the project indicate the development of present seminar halls, meeting rooms, press-museum, press libraries, auditoriums, rentable office space, cafeterias, etc. However, architecturally it is a challenging project to draw a balanced civic space among the people and authority of the state.
