Cataloged from PDF version of thesis. Includes bibliographical references (page 51). Arts and culture have always been an integral part of society, having it’s mark all over history and one of the key factors to understanding how humans have lived in the past. Within the present situation, with more and more of the world’s population opting to live in an urban context, there is an increase in urbanisation. As people’s lives get more hectic with living in an urban context, spaces for the arts are needed to not only bring in a respite, but to also allow the people in the arts to share their skills. In order to bring in a platform for a multitude of arts to be showcased, the project will aim to address the best way to approach this ideal. Considering the environment and how to best utilise the surrounding conditions, the project will attempt to bring about a space for the arts and crafts. Research based on how arts and crafts centre work on an international scale and how to bring about a sustainable approach to the project is thus vital. By analysing the location, through careful mapping, surveys and studies, and having an understanding of the problems and the strengths of the site, a space can be created to allow for cultural exchange.
