Cataloged from PDF version of thesis report. Includes bibliographical references (pages 75-89). Diabetes is one of the most common noncommunicable diseases in the world and insulin, a biologic, has been a successful treatment option for this disease. However, the cost of insulin treatment is expensive and thus a global burden. The introduction of biosimilar insulins (a highly similar copy of the biologic insulin) will not only reduce the cost but will also open door to patient access and choices of diabetes treatment. Several biosimilar insulins are already available in the market, and patient acceptability is expected to increase over time. Different countries with their stringent laws are working to establish this treatment option for the diabetic patients. A greater knowledge for the acceptance of biosimilar insulins is needed for the biosimilar insulin to be used in place of the biologic insulin. This paper aims to provide an overview on biosimilar insulins as a potential option for the treatment of diabetes. Turana Tabassum B.
