Department of Architecture, Brac University Multimodal Transportation hub Transit Local transit--Planning This thesis is submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Architecture, 2019. Cataloged from PDF version of thesis. Includes bibliographical references (page 109-110). The Government of Bangladesh, DTCA (Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority) and JICA (Japanese International Coordination Authority) have proposed the construction of multiple (21) multimodal terminals in Dhaka including Gabtoli at the current location of the Inter-District Bus Terminal. With future proposals for mass rapid transit routes- MRT 2 in the site, and the inclusiveness of Intra-City routes, the design of the Multimodal hub has been generated. The hub aims to facilitate the interchange between different modes of transport through establishment of park amenities, multiplex and accommodation. The unification of the surrounding green and vegetation and opening the ground for the pedestrians act as the source of form development. Amidst the chaotic city atmosphere, with numerous functions, the concept is mainly to prioritize pedestrians and provide a mingling spot for the local bystanders, acting as the connection point that connects Dhaka to the North and South of Bangladesh.
